Join Sian at the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery in south east Cornwall for a delightful day exploring natural colour, finding inspiration from nature and learning simple tried and tested recipes and methods for creating colour on cloth.

The workshop will be fun as well as informative,  learning the art and science of natural dyeing with plants.  We will spend the morning creating a sample book of colours on silk, learning about the mordanting process, creating a dye bath and modifying colours. In the afternoon we will create a beautiful silk scarf to take home, using simple shibori (tie-die) techniques.

Running from 10am to 4pm with refreshments and time for a 2 course lunch.

Sian will introduce the processes and methods needed to prepare and mordant fabric, use historical dyes to create swatches on silk and cotton and also learn how to modify colour with adjuncts.

This course is suitable for beginners and requires no specialist knowledge.

The Duchy of Cornwall Nursery is located approximately 1 mile from the town of  Lostwithiel, south east Cornwall. There is ample parking on site, but if you wish to arrive by public transport, please get in touch and we can advise on taxis from the mainline station at Lostwithiel.

The course will be held in their beautiful tipi structure, with glorious views over the south east Cornwall landscape of the Duchy of Cornwall.

Lostwithiel itself is an ancient stannary town (founded on the wealth of tin mining), dating back to the 12th century, and has plentiful cafes and shops to browse, as well as the historic Restormel Castle managed by English Heritage.

The fee includes refreshments, a two course lunch and all materials (please bring an old shirt or apron.)

Places are limited. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Please note that the fee is non-refundable if you are uable to attend, unless another person can be found to take your place.

If for any reason the workshop is cancelled by the host, you will be informed 2 weeks prior to the date, and a full refund offered.
