Book Workshops

I love teaching both in person and online workshops, aiming to fill your life with colour and fun.  My teaching style is informative but informal, demystefiying the process of plant dyeing, and encouraging you to explore your own creativity through natural colour, and connections to the landscape.

As well as my subscription - The Natural Dye Journal, I offer a small collection of in person workshops throughout the year, as well as bespoke classes on a 1 to 1 basis.

Summer Silk Dyeing at Cotehele National Trust

Join Sian at the National Trust Cotehele east Cornwall for a delightful morning exploring natural colour, finding inspiration from nature and learning simple tried and tested recipes and methods for creating colour on cloth.

The workshop will be fun as well as informative,  learning the art and science of natural dyeing with plants.  We will spend the morning creating a sample book of colours on silk, learning about the mordanting process, creating a dye bath and modifying colours. In the afternoon we will create a beautiful silk scarf to take home.

Running from 10am to 1 pm, all you need to bring is yourself, and an old shirt or apron to protect your clothes.
 

Sian will introduce the processes and methods needed to prepare and mordant fabric, use historical dyes to create swatches on silk and cotton and also learn how to modify colour with adjuncts.

This course is suitable for beginners and requires no specialist knowledge.
